Dan Martin serves as the Assistant Department Head and Director of Facilities and Operations for the Department of Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation and is in his 23rd year at MIT in 2018-19. In his position he has oversight for 10 DAPER facilities and is responsible for budget supervision, facility purchasing, major maintenance, project management, event management, revenue generation, human resources and the strategic direction of facilities and operations.

Since 1996 he has worked as the Assistant Department Head for DAPER and has served as project manager on several major construction projects (Steinbrenner Track, Briggs Field, Johnson Athletic Center Indoor Track, Lincoln Lab Fitness Center, DuPont locker room renovation, Rockwell Cage renovation, the Al and Barrie Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center, Carr Indoor Tennis Bubble, Steinbrenner Garden Renovation, the Roberts Field Project, Fencing Renovation Project, Sailing Dock Project and Jack Barry Field Replacement Project. Dan received the DUE/DSL Infinite Mile Award for his collaboration and dedication in the construction of the Zesiger Fitness Center in 2003. In the summer of 2016, he oversaw full renovations of the Steinbrenner Stadium bleachers, the Sherie and Don (1961) Track, Fran O'Brien Field (Baseball) and Briggs Field (Softball), as well as the resurfacing of other intramural and practice fields on Vassar Street.

Martin functioned as a graduate assistant in the Athletic Department at the University of Rhode Island for two years, and then became the Recreation Director at the Martin Luther King Center in Newport, Rhode Island until he was hired by the Athletic Department at Princeton University for thirteen years. During his tenure there he coached golf and volleyball, was manger of facilities and home events, ran Club Sports and Intramurals and managed the area of equipment and aquatics. Martin was a member of the Athletic Board and the Faculty Club at Princeton. Additionally he was the lead project manager for the department on several major projects and started the first Endowment for Club Sports while at Princeton.

He is married to Patricia Martin and has three children, Dan Jr., Carly and Harrison.

Martin graduated from Barrington College in Rhode Island with a Bachelor’s degree in physical education with a Minor in recreation. He was a four-year letterman in the basketball program at Barrington. He earned a Masters degree in physical education with a major emphasis in sports administration from the University of Rhode Island.
