CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (August 9) – The MIT coed and women's sailing teams have announced their schedule for the 2017 fall season, which will feature nine home regattas including the New England Match Race Championship slated for Saturday, October 14 and Sunday, October 15, 2017. The Engineers will be under the direction of co-head coaches Matt Lindblad and Mike Kalin.
The women's team opens the season at home with the Toni Deutsch Trophy which will take place on Saturday, September 9 and Sunday, September 10, while the coed team has three regattas that opening weekend including the Penobscot Bay Open and the Phillip Harman Cup at Maine Maritime Academy and the Harry Anderson Trophy, which will take place at Yale University.
The coed team, which had three All-Americans on the squad a year ago, will also host the Hatch Brown Trophy (9/16-17), the Midweek Firefly (9/21), the Smith Trophy (9/30-10/1), the Firefly/FJ Invite (10/14), the Oberg Trophy (10/21-22), the Schell Trophy – the New England Coed Championship (10/28-29) and the Crews Regatta (11/5).
The end of October and the beginning of November will feature postseason events for the Engineers. On the weekend of October 28 and October 29, the New England Championships for the coed team, the women's team and the freshmen will take place. The coed team will host the Schell Trophy, the women's team will travel to Harvard University for the Victorian Coffee Urn and the freshmen will head to Tufts University for the Nickerson Trophy. Two weeks later, the Atlantic Coast Championships will be held at SUNY Maritime (Coed) and Connecticut College (Women). A year ago the Engineers won their first ever Coed Atlantic Coast Championship in program history.
