Chad Martinovich will be entering his third season at the helm of MIT’s football program in 2011. He made the trek to Cambridge from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), where he served as the Defensive Coordinator for four years.

Martinovich joined the RPI coaching staff in 2004 as the Offensive Coordinator and the quarterbacks coach. The following year, he became the commander of the Engineers’ defensive corps. Martinovich’s defense ranked first in the Liberty League three straight years while the team qualified for the NCAA Championship Tournament in 2007. During his tenure, RPI was crowned the ECAC Bowl Champions three times.

Starting his coaching career as a defensive line coach at Bucknell in 1994, Martinovich moved to coach linebackers at Hamilton College (1995-97) before switching to the offensive side of the ball as the receivers coach at Albany in 1997, before accepting Offensive Coordinator positions at Swarthmore College (1998-00) and then back at Hamilton (2001-03). He has coached several All-Americans, numerous All-Conference performers, and had a player earn a spot at an NFL training camp.

Martinovich currently resides in Natick, Mass. with his wife, Erin, and their children, Hailey and Tyler.

Al Pogarian

One of the most experienced coaches on the MIT football coaching staff, Al Pogarian will be in his fifth season with the Engineers. He brings 20 years of football to the MIT program where he will be coaching the defensive line for a second consecutive season.

Pogarian came to MIT starting in 2007 as the running backs coach. Under his guidance MIT set a single-game rushing record of 477 yards that season. For the 2008 and 2009 seasons he took over as the Engineers offensive coordinator and saw his unit set school records for points, touchdowns, first downs, rushing yards, total offense, and rushing TDs in 2008. He moved to his current position with the defensive line in 2010.

Prior to MIT, Pogarian was the offensive line coach and nearby Waltham High School from 2001-06 where he coached Mackenzy Bernadeau who currently plays for the NFL's Carolina Panthers.

At the collegiate level, Pogarian has held positions of offensive line coach at Marist College and Westfield State University as well as the offensive coordinator at Dean College.

A 1991 graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Pogarian was a four-year letterwinner for the Minutemen. A two-year starter at center, he was a member of three Yankee Conference championship teams as well as a pair of squads that played in the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs. Pogarian earned a bachelor's degree in business administration while in Amherst and is a native of Natick, Massachusetts.

Timot Felker

Entering his second season on the MIT football staff is Timot Felker. After coaching the defensive backs in 2010 he will be moving to the offensive side of the ball in 2011 as he takes over the duties as the coach of the MIT wide receivers. He will also handle the strength and conditioning and video coordinator duties for the Engineers.

Prior to joining the MIT program in the spring of 2010, Felker spent the 2009 season at Maryville College in Tennessee where he worked with the defensive line.

While working on his Master's degree in sport psychology at the University of Tennessee, Felker worked in the recruiting office for the Volunteer football program. He received his Masters degree from Tennessee in 2009.

A 2008 graduate of Boston College, Felker was a student manager for the Eagles football team as well as working as an assistant in the recruiting and film offices.

Tim Viall

Tim Viall

Title: Assistant Coach (Quarterbacks/Running Backs)
Year: 1st at MIT
College: Endicott College '10

Tim Viall will be in his first season at MIT as a member of Coach Martinovich's staff in 2011. He will be working with the quarterbacks and running backs in his first season with the Engineers.

During the 2010 football season he was the defensive coordinator at Middleboro High School in Middleboro, Massachusetts. His defensive unit held three opponents to a touchdown or less, including posting shutouts in the final two games of the season. In addition to his coordinator duties he also coached the wide receiver and defensive back positions.

Viall graduated from Endicott College in 2010 with a bachelor of science degree in physical education. He was three-year starter for the Gulls football squad as a tight end and was an All-New England Football Conference selection in 2008. As a senior in 2009 he was a team captain and was named Endicott's offensive MVP.
