Cambridge, Mass. (August 2) – The MIT men's soccer program has announced its slate of games for the 2018 season, which will feature a 16-match schedule that includes seven New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contests and eight home games at Roberts Field at Steinbrenner Stadium. The Engineers will be under the guidance of head coach Ken Bovell, who enters his fourth season on the sidelines with the Engineers.
The Engineers will open the season on the road at UMass-Boston on Friday, August 31 before returning to Cambridge to face Newbury College on Saturday, September 1 and UMass-Dartmouth on Wednesday, September 5. Additionally, of the 16 scheduled games this fall, MIT will play three teams that made an appearance in the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship Tournament a year ago including Brandeis University, which reached the national semifinals, on October 2, NEWMAC Champion WPI on September 22 and NEWMAC runner-up Springfield on October 6.
After playing five straight non-conference games to open the season, the Engineers will head to Norton, Massachusetts for their first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match against Wheaton College on Saturday, September 15 at 2:00 p.m. On September 29, the men's soccer program will celebrate its 100th anniversary season on Saturday, September 29 during and after its NEWMAC match against Babson College scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Finally, the Engineers will honor its senior class prior to its regular season finale against Emerson on Saturday, October 27 at 1:00 p.m.
Returning to the squad in August will be reigning NEWMAC Rookie of the Year Loukas Carayannopoulos (Westfield, N.J.) as well as Thad Daguilh (Port-au-Prince, Haiti), who was named to the NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team last season.
