Men's, Women's Track and Field/XC Place 10 Student-Athletes on Academic All-District Teams

Cambridge, Mass. (May 26) -- The MIT men's and women's cross country and track and field teams have placed 10 student-athletes on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams as five men and five women earned the honor this week. These individuals will now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third-team All-America honorees will be selected next month.

On the men's side, senior Rory Beyer (San Mateo, Calif.), graduate student Matthew Deyo (Syracuse, N.Y.), senior Colin Godwin (Cary, N.C.), senior Arinze Okeke (Hawthorne, Calif.) and junior William Ruschel (Bethel Park, Pa.) were each honored. This is the second Academic All-District honor for Godwin, Okeke and Ruschel as both Godwin and Okeke have previously earned Academic All-America honors as well.

For the women, senior Natalie Alper (Columbia, Md.), junior Hannah Chen (Los Gatos, Calif.), senior Maryann Gong (Livermore, Calif.), junior Nneoma Okonkwo (Lagos, Nigeria) and sophomore Leandra Zimmermann (Augsburg, Germany) were honored this year. Gong was named as the 2016 CoSIDA D3 Women's Academic All-America Athlete of the Year and is a two-time First Team Academic All-America honoree, while the other four are being recognized for the first time by CoSIDA.
