Engineers Land 31 on USTFCCCA Track and Field All-Academic Teams

New Orleans, La. (July 26) -- Thirty-one members of the MIT men's and women's track and field teams have been honored on the All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The MIT men had a nation-leading 13 student-athletes honored, while the women had 18 student-athletes earn All-Academic honors. With 31 total honorees, the Engineers ranked third in the country in overall individuals recognized.

The men's team posted the highest cumulative team GPA in the country with a 3.63 to earn All-Academic Team accolades, while the women also earned the All-Academic Team award with a team GPA of 3.64. That GPA places the women 10th in the country in Division III.

The Engineers had seven student-athletes earn Google Cloud Academic All-American honors in 2017-18 and had 36 NEWMAC Academic All-Conference selections. Highlighting the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honorees is junior Aidan Gilson (Florence, Mass.), who captured the NCAA Elite 90 Award in the indoor season and now has a pair of Elite 90 honors in his career.

On the track, both the men's and women's teams captured the NEWMAC Outdoor Championship and the New England Division III Outdoor Championship while sending 16 student-athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Championship.
