Engineers Defeat Regis and Wentworth in Volleyball Tri-Match

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT men's volleyball team defeated local foes Regis College (25-10, 25-23, 25-17) and Wentworth Institute of Technology (25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 25-21) in a home tri-match on Saturday. Earlier in the day, Wentworth swept Regis, 25-13, 25-9, 25-19).

Senior Alex Klein (San Diego, Calif.) led the way for MIT (4-0) with 10 kills and 10 digs as sophomore Martin Krasuski (Aurora, Ill.) tallied nine kills, six digs, and two blocks. Freshman Jack Serrino (Glencoe, Ill.) posted six kills and six blocks while sophomore Sean Kropp (Fairless Hills, Pa.) bolstered the front row with three blocks. Junior Brendan Chang (Laytonsville, Md.) registered 29 assists and five aces as senior Chris Omahan (Mount Vernon, Ohio) and sophomore Jordan Lucier (Torrance, Calif.) both notched four digs.

Sophomore Sean Bisnett (Oxnard, Calif.) paced a balanced Regis (0-2) attack with seven kills while adding seven digs. Freshman Ryan Conte (Oxnard, Calif.) produced seven digs, five kills, and two blocks as sophomore Brandon Tordoff (Coventry, R.I.) collected eight digs and three blocks. Sophomore Jon Fuentes (Downey, Calif.) picked up five digs while freshmen Brett Krahl (Santa Clarita, Calif.) and Marcos Aquirre (Norwalk, Calif.) both registered three blocks. Freshman Ryan Husher (Camarillo, Calif.) rounded out the squad with 15 assists and three blocks.

Wentworth def. Regis, 3-0 (25-13, 25-9, 25-19)
Sophomore Jake Reed (Arvada, Colo.) powered Wentworth (6-2) with 13 kills and a .579 hitting percentage to go along with two aces. Freshman Jon Roat (Macedon, N.Y.) tallied nine kills, a .375 hitting performance, six digs, four blocks, and two aces as classmate Sean Mullen (Longwood, Fla.) recorded nine kills, a .333 hitting effort, and four blocks. Senior Sean Donahue (Lincoln, R.I.) chipped in six kills and two blocks while sophomore Alex Potts (Niverville, N.Y.) contributed three blocks. Sophomore Colin Ritter (Feeding Hills, Mass.) generated a double-double on a match-high 30 assists and 10 digs as freshman Kevin McPeek (Bethlehem, Pa.) tacked on six digs.

Krahl posted five kills and three blocks, followed by four kills and three blocks by Tordoff. Freshman Josiah Roque (Oxnard, Calif.) earned four blocks and three digs as Aquirre added two blocks. Sophomore Joe Hanrahan (Coventry, R.I.) dished out nine assists while Husher finished with five assists, five digs, and an ace.

MIT def. Wentworth, 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 25-21)
Krasuski posted 11 kills and 10 digs while Klein totaled 12 digs, nine kills, six blocks, and two aces for MIT. Serrino generated eight kills and six blocks as freshman Andrew Hall (Lynnfield, Mass.) tacked on six kills and four blocks. Lucier collected eight digs while Omahan had seven of his own. Chang completed the match with 32 assists and 11 digs.

Mullen put up a match-high 17 kills to go along with 10 digs as Ritter amassed 44 assists, 19 digs, four blocks, and two aces. Reed notched 12 kills and nine digs while Roat had 11 digs and nine kills. Donahue paced the blocking corps with five stops.

Next up for MIT and Wentworth are matches with local foes on Tuesday, Feb. 3. MIT will visit crosstown rival Harvard University while Wentworth will host Lasell College. Regis continues its road trip on Saturday, Feb. 7 when it begins the two-day Keuka College Tournament.
