Westwood, Mass. (December 18) – MIT junior Kara Holinski (Livonia, Mich.) was tabbed for NEWMAC Women's Basketball Offensive Athlete of the Week honors as announced by the league on Monday. In a 2-0 week for the Engineers, she averaged 18 points on 66.7 percent shooting from the floor, including a 66.7 percent performance from three-point range, four rebounds, four assists, and 33 minutes.
Holinski began the week with a game-high 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting, which featured a 6-of-9 showing from behind the arc, in a 78-49 win over Framingham State University on Tuesday. In addition to tallying five rebounds, four assists, and two steals, her six three-pointers were just one shy of tying the MIT record for a single-game performance. Two days later in a 74-51 victory at Endicott College, Holinski went 5-of-7 from the floor and 2-of-3 from three-point range for 12 points while also notching four assists and three rebounds.
The Engineers (6-2) return to action on Friday, Dec. 29 when it hosts the College of Staten Island at 2:00 p.m.
