Women's Soccer Set for NCAA Regional Match Against Vassar on Saturday at Amherst

Indianapolis, Ind. (November 5) - Coming off the program's second straight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship, the MIT women's soccer team has earned the league's automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. 

The Engineers will take on Vassar College (9-7-1) in a first-round matchup that will take place on Saturday November 10 at Amherst College on Saturday, November 10 at 1:30 pm.

The Engineers, who are ranked No. 24 nationally by the United Soccer Coaches, earned the program's fifth NEWMAC championship with a 2-1 overtime win over Springfield College on Saturday afternoon. It was Amy Apostol's (Los Gatos, Calif.) goal in the 92nd minute that gave MIT the NEWMAC crown and that pushed the Engineers overall record to 16-2-3, which is tied for first with Lesley and St. Joseph's (Maine) for the most wins in New England this fall.

Joining MIT in this weekend's NCAA regional are host and No. 15 Amherst College, Vassar College and Cambridge neighbor Lesley University. The Mammoths and the Lynx are scheduled to play the early game on Saturday with a start time of 11:00 am.

This marks the second-ever meeting between MIT and Vassar College. The only other time that the Engineers and the Brewers have met was in 2016 at the Engineering Cup hosted by Stevens in Hoboken, N.J. on September 11. MIT ended up winning the match against Vassar
