Debora Magalhaes joined the MIT volleyball coaching staff in the fall of 2016.
Originally from Belo Horizonte, Brazil Magalhaes played for Minas Tenis Clube until leaving the country in 2012 to pursue a degree in the United States. She was the starting libero for every match during her career at Bryant University, leading the Northeast Conference (NEC) in total digs and digs per set as both a junior and a senior. In 2015, those numbers, respectively, ranked fifth and eighth on the NCAA Division I national leaderboard. As a senior captain, Magalhaes was honored as Bryant's NCAA Woman of the Year, Rhode Island Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Distinguished Athlete of the Year, and received the ICC Jim Thorpe Athletic Award by Bryant's Intercultural Center.
Magalhaes graduated summa cum laude in 2016 with a degree in applied mathematics and statistics along with a minor in business administration. She is currently working as an analytics report developer at PointRight, Inc. in Cambridge.
