Cambridge, Mass. (October 9) -- Becca Shaw has been named as the MIT special assistant to the athletic director/department head, as announced by athletic director and department head, Julie Soriero.

"I am excited to welcome Becca into her full-time role in DAPER and I'm looking forward to working closely with her on a daily basis," said Soriero. "She has shown a passion for MIT as a field hockey assistant coach and I think our entire department will benefit from her hard work in this new role."

Shaw comes to MIT from Soul Cycle, Inc. in Boston, Mass., where she has worked since September 2015. Starting out as the assistant studio manager, Shaw was most recently serving as the studio manager and supervised studio operations, two assistant managers and studio staff. From a business development standpoint, Shaw has led various initiatives to maintain and grow the client base. Prior to Soul Cycle, she worked at the Boston Children's Hospital as both the "Advocating Success for Kids" administrative coordinator and the "Reach Out and Read" coordinator.

Shaw has been an assistant coach for the MIT field hockey program since 2014 and was a three-sport varsity student-athlete at Middlebury College (Vt.). For the Panthers, she played field hockey, ice hockey and lacrosse and served as the co-captain of the field hockey team in 2011. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology in 2012 and also earned a minor in sociology.

Shaw was recently inducted into the South Burlington High School Athletic Hall of Fame and received the 2015 Exceptional Service Star for her work at Boston Children's Hospital.
