Cambridge, Mass. (March 3) -- As part of a series that is taking place throughout the 2020-21 academic year, the Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (DAPER) is featuring a number of head coaches and DAPER staff members to learn more about them. This next installment of the series features Brittany Bresley, who was recently named as the MIT assistant director of athletics for compliance and student-athlete development in January 2021.

As part of each feature, we have included a written question and answer session, along with a video interview where recruits, alumni, fans and others can learn more about the MIT staff. If you can't currently visit MIT, we will bring MIT to you!

Q: Growing up, what was your very first job?
A: My VERY first job growing up was walking door to door handing out "business cards" for my babysitting services. I did not tell my mom I had done so and she was pretty shocked when our next door neighbor called to ask for my services. My first real was working at Sports Authority in the shoe department.

Q: What is the last book that you have read?
A:
The last book I read was Expect to Win: Proven Strategies for Success from a Wall Street Journal Vet by Carla A. Harris. HIGHLY recommend any of her books as well as anything Brené Brown.

Q: What is your favorite quote?
A: That's a tough one! There are so many amazing quotes.

  1. Great leaders know that what's best for their team is best for them. Great leaders are for their team. All the leadership skills in the world don't matter if your heart isn't right. - Kevin DeShazo from Leadership Interrupted (this entire book is really my favorite quote)
  2. Nobody can go back and start again, but anybody can start today and make a new beginning. - Maria Robinson

Q: Do you listen to podcasts and if you do, do you have a favorite one?
A: I am not an avid podcast listener, but I do listen to Stuff You Should Know with some regularity.

Q: What is a hidden talent that people may not know about you?
A: I am a pretty crafty person and recently opened an Etsy shop! I also make funny videos for my golden retriever pup on TikTok (@adorathegolden) like "How Not to Wear a Mask".

Q: What is your favorite part of your job?
A: I love getting to be involved in all aspects of a student-athlete's time in college. These are some memorable years and I want to help students make the most of it, both on and off the field. I love sharing in student's victories and lending and ear when things are less than ideal.

Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: Absolute top would have to be The Holiday. The Proposal and The Greatest Showman are close runner-ups.

Q: When the pandemic ends, where is the first place you would go on vacation?
A: I haven't seen my parents in over a year so first trip would be back to sunny SoCal…and maybe get a Disney trip in. Internationally, Italy or Germany is up next!

Q: What is your favorite professional sports team?
A: Red Sox - I could watch baseball all day if you let me!
