Rifle Finishes Second Overall at 2020 MAC Championship

THE BASICS:

- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (DuPont Rifle Range)

- The Lead: At the MAC Championship over the weekend, the MIT rifle team finished second overall with a total of 4,393 points over the two-day event. The Engineers were second on day one with a score of 2,214 points in air rifle, followed by a third-place day on Sunday in air rifle with a score of 2,179 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Coast Guard won the overall title with 4,567 points that included a score of 2,318 points in air rifle on Sunday. Seth Strayer won both sections, including an air rifle score of 585. John Jay was second in air rifle at 2,228 points, followed by MIT at 2,214 and SUNY-Plattsburgh at 1,719 points.

- MIT senior Jesus Herrera (Los Angeles, Calif.) was sixth with an air rifle score of 566 points. Junior Landon Chu (Burke, Va.) was the second MIT shooter at 561 points, followed by senior Ivy Li (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) at 546 and senior Elijah Miller (Shavertown, Pa.) at 544 points.

- Senior Thomas Rick (New Orleans, La.) totaled a score of 541 points to go along with 538 by first-year Jenny Zhang (Austin, Texas) and 516 by sophomore Steven Acevedo (Waco, Texas)
