Sailing Preps For ACC's With Impressive Results This Weekend

Professor No Ringer at Boston University – 2nd of 14 (A Division – 5th, B Division – 1st)
Horn Trophy at Harvard University – 4th of 4 (1-8 Record in Team Race)
Crews Regatta at Home – 8th of 13 (A Division – 3rd, B Division – 10th)

- The Lead: With just one week before the Atlantic Coast Championships, the MIT sailing team competed in a trio of regattas – including their first team race of the year – over the weekend. The Engineers began the weekend with a second place finish in the Professor No Ringer and fourth place finish in the Horn Trophy on Saturday and followed it up with an eighth place finish in the Crews Regatta at home on Sunday. In the latest Sailing World College rankings, the coed team was ranked No. 8 in the country, while the women's team was placed at No. 20.


- The Engineers began the weekend with a very strong performance at the Professor No Ringer on Saturday.The B Division vessel sailed by freshmen Fiona McKellar (Palos Verdes, Calif.) and Brooke McGoldrick (Southport, Conn.) took first place as a duo (16 points) and over six rotations, crossed the line first three straight times. The A Division boat sailed by McGoldrick, classmate Julia Cho (Cupertino, Calif.) and sophomore John Piotti (Unity, Maine) also had their strongest races in rotations two through four as they finished fourth, second, and fourth, respectively, to end the regatta in fifth as a trio.

- At the Horn Trophy – MIT's first team race of the season – the Cardinal and Gray finished in fourth place with a record of 1-8. With freshman Connor Chung (Newport Beach, Calif.), classmate Stephen Duncan (Severna Park, Md.) and junior Greta Farrell (Huntington, N.Y.) as the skippers and sophomore Noa Yoder (New York, N.Y.), classmate Tiffany Xi (Foster City, Calif.) and senior Sophie Goemans (Lexington, Mass.) as the crews, MIT defeated Harvard 1-2-6 in the bronze medal match.

- MIT closed the weekend at the Crew's Regatta at its home waters. Senior Jorlyn Le Garrec (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Farrell clinched third place in the A Division, while freshmen Alice Lin (Cypress, Calif.) and Marcus Abate (Kemah, Texas) took tenth in the B Division. Although the regatta was only three races long, Le Garrec and Farrell placed second, fifth and fourth, while Lin and Abate took eighth in the first and second rotation and did not start in the final race of the day.


- MIT will close the fall season by hosting and competing in the Coed Atlantic Coast Championship this coming weekend.
