Cambridge, Mass. (May 6) -- MIT men's basketball sophomore Matas Masys (Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.) has been named to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, as selected by the regional athletic communications directors. The Academic All-District program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.

Masys has appeared in 25 career games with 10 starts as a rookie, averaging 8.8 points, three rebounds, three assists and 1.2 steals per game. Named as the 2020 MIT men's basketball First-Year Player of the Year, he posted a career-high 17 points in a road win at Pine Manor College in 2019-20, picked up a career-high 10 assists in a home matchup with Babson College and had nine double-digit scoring games. A computer science and engineering major at MIT, Masys owns a perfect 5.0 grade point average on the MIT 5.0 scale.

Off the court, Masys has worked as a software development engineer intern at BusySquirrels in Maclean, Va. in January 2021 and also worked as an undergraduate research assistant at the MIT Space Propulsion Laboratory from January-August 2020.

Masys will now advance to the CoSIDA Men's Basketball Division III National Academic All-America ballot, with those honorees being announced in the last week of May.
