• MIT Showcases Talent at US Rowing Club National Championship

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT rowing program saw six current student-athletes, two incoming freshmen, and one alumna compete at the 2010 US Rowing Club National Championship held July 14-18 in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Kate Hoff ’08, Richard Suarez ’11, Lucas Goodman ’11, Ben Potash ’14, and Andrew Schlaepfer ’14 earned medals while Lauren Ayers ’13, Meghan Dow ’12, Katie Everett ’12, and Clare Flanagan ’11 turned in solid performances.
  • MIT Finishes 11th in Directors’ Cup Rankings

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Coming on the heels of one of the most successful campaigns in Institute history, MIT placed 11th among all Division III schools in the National Association of College Directors of Athletics (NACDA) annual Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup. This was the highest ranking for the Engineers in the 14-year history of the program and the first time they were the best performers in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).

With winds building from a manageable eight mile per hour headwind up to 18mph and increasingly choppy water, all crews had their hands full.
  • Lightweight Men Split Results in First Race

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT men’s lightweight crew began its spring season Saturday with positive but mixed results against Dartmouth College and University of Pennsylvania. In a light headwind and slightly choppy water, the Engineers posted their first win for 2010 in the Freshmen Eights event while the Varsity squad lost to both the Quakers and the Big Green.

    Princeton, N.J. – MIT’s men’s lightweight crew travelled to the Princeton Three-Mile Chase on Sunday for this invitation only event. Making their fourth appearance at the race, the Engineers entered boats in the Varsity and Freshmen Lightweight Eight events as well as two boats in the Lightweight Fours events. All signs are positive that the Cardinal and Gray is gaining speed, but as head coach Ted Benford said after the race, “We are focused on continuing to develop into a competitive spring racing program.”

    Poznan, POLAND - In strong tailwind conditions, Skip Dise ‘03 was the first across the line as the U.S. Lightweight Men’s Eight captured the Silver Medal at the World Championships held in Poznan, Poland last weekend. Dise was the bow seat of the U.S. entry which posted the fastest time in the heats and continued building momentum into the Saturday Finals.
