Lightweight Women's Crew Performs Well on Blustery Saturday on the Charles

- Location: Boston, Mass. (Charles River)

- The Lead: On Saturday morning on the Charles River, the MIT women's lightweight crew team took on Williams, Wellesley and William Smith in three varsity 8 races. In the D3 openweight national rankings, Williams is currently ranked No. 3, followed by Wellesley at No. 9. For MIT, the team's varsity 8 boat is currently No. 7 in the nation in this week's USRowing Collegiate Poll.

The conditions this morning included a 10-15 mph headwind and choppy water along the course.

- In the varsity 8 race, the Engineers finished second out of four boats in a time of 8:09.768. The crew was one length down to Wellesley coming through the 1,000-meter mark, but walked back to beat the Blue by just under one second. Williams took the race in 8:04.8, along with Wellesley in third at 8:10.595 and William Smith fourth at 8:26.274.

- The 2V8 struggled with the conditions in Lane Five throughout most of the race before making a strong push over the last 300 meters as the water flattened out. Overall, MIT was fourth in the heat in 8:51.710 as Wellesley finished first in 8:13.704. Williams crossed in second at 8:14.591, along with Williams Smith in third in a time of 8:41.434.

- The third varsity 8 boat crossed in fourth place in 9:24.588, finishing behind the Wellesley 4V boat that posted a time of 9:06.315. Wellesley won the heat in 8:22.1, while Williams was the runner-up in 8:24.919. Overall, the MIT 3V8 rowed a very clean, well-executed race.
