Nine Engineers Named to NEWMAC Women's Cross Country Academic All-Conference Team

Westwood, Mass. (March 10) -- As announced by the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), nine members of the MIT women's cross country program have been named to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team. A total of 79 student-athletes were honored across the league for women's cross country.

Seniors Katie Collins (Newton, Mass.) and Katie Williams (Papillion, Neb.) are being recognized for the third time in their careers, while juniors Alana Chandler (Chicago, Ill.) and Izzi Gengaro (Boonton Township, N.J.) are honored for the second straight season.

Junior Abby Mauermann (Brookfield, Wis.) and sophomores Anna Chau (Salem, Ore.), Nicole Cybul (Novi, Mich.), Anna Haddad (Tacoma, Wash.) and Kirsi Rajagopal (Harrison, N.Y.) are the first-time Academic All-Conference selections for the Engineers.

Out of the nine MIT honorees, Chandler, Collins, Cybul, Gengaro and Haddad also have a perfect 5.0 GPA on MIT's 5.0 grading scale.

To be eligible for the Academic All-Conference Team in 2020-21, student-athletes must have been a member of their team for the entire semester, reached second-year academic status at their institution and have a cumulative GPA of a 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
